Kainoa Shave Ice

Kainoa Shave Ice is more than a shave ice business — it is a little piece of the Ogo family’s island story they get to share. Matthew’s family came from Guam to Oʻahu, where he was born, and he was later raised on Guam. His wife’s family has deep roots on Guam as well. Her grandmother came from the Philippines to Guam to work for the Agueda Johnston family before opening her own café, Bernie’s Café. That spirit of family, food, and sharing has stayed with them through generations.

Today Matthew, his wife, and their kids love returning to Hawaiʻi, making memories, and enjoying local favorites like Matsumoto’s. Kainoa was born from those memories and their desire to bring a taste of Hawaiʻi, their island roots, and a little aloha to the communities they now call home in Virginia.
