FAQ

What is Hawaiian Yellow Pages™?

Hawaiian Yellow Pages™ is a vetted directory of Kamaʻāina, Kānaka ʻŌiwi, Pacific Islander, and Island Roots businesses on the U.S. Mainland, plus a few rooms abroad. It also lists events. It is not the phone book for the State of Hawaiʻi.

Is Hawaiian Yellow Pages™ the Hawaii Yellow Pages?

No. yellowpages.com/state-hi lists businesses in Hawaiʻi. Hawaiian Yellow Pages™ lists mainland and overseas businesses owned by people with a real tie to Hawaiʻi or the Pacific.

Who is listed in Hawaiian Yellow Pages™?

Shops and people with a real tie to the culture: Kamaʻāina (born or raised in Hawaiʻi), Kānaka ʻŌiwi (of aboriginal Hawaiian descent), Pacific Islander (Samoan, Tongan, CHamoru, Fijian, Marshallese, Māori, and kin), and Island Roots (married in, stationed there, family across the water — not a weekend vacation).

What kinds of businesses are in the book?

Kitchens, plate lunch, poke, food trucks, markets, hālau, civic clubs, churches, lei makers, ʻukulele shops, clinics, and more. A shop does not have to be a storefront. Festivals and classrooms count.

Does Hawaiian Yellow Pages™ list events?

Yes. Mainland and international events with a Hawaiʻi or Pacific tie — concerts, kanikapila, festivals, and community gatherings.

How do I find a Hawaiian business near me?

Open hawaiianyellowpages.com and use Near me, or search by city, state, or category. Near me sorts by distance. Your location is not saved.

How do I list my business?

A basic listing is free. Submit at hawaiianyellowpages.com/submit-listing. Nothing goes in the book until it is vetted and approved. You need a phone, a website, or a street address. A Facebook page alone is not enough.

What is a Featured listing?

A Featured listing is $120 for 12 months. It includes a photo, a fuller page, and a gold tile. It goes live when PayPal confirms. Monthly is $15, or $120 if you pay the year.

What does “Try tell ’em HYP sent you” mean?

It is the book’s line. If you found a shop here, say so when you go. It tells the owner the directory sent you.

Who runs Hawaiian Yellow Pages™?

A private LLC. Listings are reviewed before they go in the book. Contact [email protected].

Is there a Hawaiian business directory for the mainland?

Yes. Hawaiian Yellow Pages™ at hawaiianyellowpages.com covers Kamaʻāina and Pacific businesses outside Hawaiʻi — California, Nevada, Washington, Texas, Virginia, and farther, including a few rooms in Japan and elsewhere.

How many listings are in Hawaiian Yellow Pages™?

Hundreds of public listings, mostly on the U.S. Mainland, plus ʻohana abroad. The count grows as new shops are vetted.

Can a tiki bar or an ʻukulele shop be listed if the owner is not from Hawaiʻi?

Yes, as an Island Inspired Partner. Those rooms serve the market. They are partners, not claimed as Hawaiian-owned.
